Election Observations To Talk About

This will not be much of a substantive diary. Just an interesting discussion on a few random subjects that relate to this year's historic election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. Let's have a good discussion. WARNING!!! Perhaps a topic or two will be controversial....but that's just what happens. I assume that, if you are on dailykos, you aren't tired of political discussion.

First off...has anyone ambled on over to Alegre's Corner lately? Or any of the other PUMA sights. You remember those people? The dim bulbs who said we just handed the country to the Republicans when Hillary wasn't voted for by the majority of the Democratic Party? The same people who demanded that Kos firmly state he would support the Democratic nominee even if it was Hillary (which he did) but then when it wasn't Hillary, these mental midgits simply whined and refused to! Anyone remember these people? If you don't, go check out Alegre's Corner. Some of what they are writing there will amuse you! Again, this is not an effort re-open primary wounds, but still...I don't like it when people who spat on the movement (which they did) decide to try and take credit for it's success (which they are now doing).

Second, what on Earth happened to Nancy Boyda? That one fell completely out of the blue for me. I knew it was a tough district, but everything seemed to be going her way.

Folks, I'm not sure Barack Obama going all out in GA is the best strategy for him...though it would certainly be good for Martin. My point is, if Obama visits GA and puts a big effort into the race, and Martin loses, the story will be, "the 1st rejection of Obama." Not sure that's the best course of action. I admit, I don't know whether Obama should or should not go to GA. I certainly think he should make a fundraising appeal. what do y'all think? Honest discussion please.

Also, what do we do with Palin? Do we continue to highlight the enormity of her ineptitude, and to speak plainly, stupidity? Or do we let her retreat, and hope she comes out of her hole and runs for President? While no campaign is a sure thing win, Palin would certainly not be a difficult campaign for the Obama WH to turn back. Africa is a country? Charging people for rape kits? Forcing staffers to buy you clothes on their credit cards and making them wait for reimbursement? I'm not sure I want her to disappear, she is the gift that keeps on giving for Democrats. She is the living, walking, talking proof that a motivated GOP base is no longer enough to win an election! I think we should keep up the vetting of this woman and simply kill her chances to be President, for if we do that, the GOP will be, essentially leaderless.

Lastly, who's next? Will Palin run? Of course she will. Will she get the nomination? Not a chance. So who else could? A name I hear a lot is Bobby Jindal. I doubt he would, for he's not a fighter. He's a conservative no doubt. He's a solid Republican, but he's no fighter, he's no standard bearer for conservative principles (the way Palin is seen) and, to win a GOP primary after the party has just been cleaned out, they'll need somebody like that. They need their version of Howard Dean. Who will that be?
